RACE DAY PARTIES:     My dad used to be a racing driver so he was often invited to parties and open days at various racing circuits.  He naturally knew lots of racing people and on this particular occasion he was invited to an Open Day at Donington Park.   Tom Wheatcroft, a local entrepreneur, had bought Donington Park in the 1970s as he owned the largest collection of Grand Prix cars in the world at that time.  In 1973 he opened a museum there to house them all and called it the Donington Grand Prix Exhibition.  Donington became the favoured home of the British round of the MotoGP motorcycling championships but he was really hoping to bring Formula 1 ra...

When you say the name ‘Alton Towers’ most people in the UK will think of the theme Park with spectacular rollercoaster rides.  It really has changed beyond all recognition to the days when I used to go there back in the 1970s.  In those days it was a lovely house set in beautiful grounds with a few fairground rides to one side of the car Park!  Well, it still is a lovely place to visit but the rides have taken over now so that people only think of it as a theme Park with fantastically themed hotels and an enchanted village! He was also involved in band management and most of our lives have revolved around music related events and Festivals, among other things. After starting a family we moved to a village in Leicestershire. When I became pregnant with my first child I went to see my mum, who was thrilled to bits, and thus started the long process of building a mother/daughter relationship again. We actually became good friends with her and she was always interested in everything we got up to and very supportive of all our ventures! She left the Hall in 1989 and moved to a ne...
