He’d already escaped three times from the Nazis which is why they sent him to Colditz, a place supposedly escape-proof. However, numerous escape attempts were made including one of the most daring of all time, which my Godfather was a key part of. They actually built a glider in the attic of Colditz Castle which they planned to escape in and if you have seen either of the films you will be familiar with this story – you may have heard of them: “The Colditz Story” and “Escape from Colditz” !
