...ainly had lots of fun in those days, as a lot of the customers were quintessentially English and the local gentry were quite eccentric – even to the point of one gent bringing a horse into the pub one lunchtime and standing with it in the bar while he sipped his G & T ! Only in rural England!

...disco and lots of real ales – they were good fun and always went on until the early hours. All the neighbouring land around Hoar Cross was owned by the Duchy of Cornwall estate (Prince Charles’ land) and after one of these barn dances someone set off for home down a dark lane and crashed into a garage next to someone’s house. The car went straight through the wooden doors at the front and hit the back wall. As the car came to a halt the whole garage collapsed on top of it. The owner of the garage came rushing out of the house, having been rudely awoken by the noise, and shouted at the partygoer as he staggered out of the car.

...nose and lots of curly hair – if she didn’t know any better she could have sworn that it was Alice! A giggle erupted behind her and as she turned she saw Alice standing by one of the secret doors.
“Hello,” said Viv. “Do you want to play?”
Alice smiled and ran through the door. Viv followed close behind but as she emerged from the doorway into the Ballroom Alice was nowhere to be seen.
“Hey, are you hiding Alice? Do you want to play hide and seek?” called Viv. She looked at all the Victorian costumes that were on display in the Ballroom and wondered if she was hiding behind one of the large dresses, but a quick look round revealed...

...HERE COMES THE BRIDE (Part 1): Now my dad was having to move out of the Hall we had decided to bring our wedding forward so that we could get married in the church in the grounds (the Church of the Holy Angels) and then have the reception afterwards in the Hall, which was after all our family home. The wedding preparations were going quite well and as we knew lots of musicians it wasn’t hard to find a local band and a DJ to do the disco.
