We found this out to our cost about twenty years later when our own nightclub in Leicester was subjected to a ceiling inspection – Kev asked the inspector why this strange law had been made as it seemed a bit pointless and an unnecessary expense for us. He was told that it was due to some incident in a stately home near Lichfield back in the 70s when a ceiling moulding had fallen on somebody’s head. Imagine the looks on our faces when we realised it was my own stately home he was referring to – this inspection cost us £1500 - and all because of my dad!

...l pottery businesses (the ‘potteries’ being the local name for Stoke-on-Trent) and this put them off taking it on as this would make a residential institute undesirable. The sculpture gallery, clock tower and church were not demolished and the grounds were used as pleasure gardens throughout the last century – they even hosted the Lombard RAC Rally! As my father had been a racing driver and this was my background growing up, I was quite keen to take up rally driving when I got older, so we often went to watch the cars skid and screech around the muddy tracks in the grounds. Unfortunately, my dream never came true – well, it took me six years just...A New Year Calamity! #90
