...Percy the parrot decided to make his dash for freedom.  We would often leave the cage door open so he could walk about on top of the cage and sometimes he would fly around the lounge but on this occasion someone had left the lounge door open for too long and he flew out and down the Long Gallery then into the Ballroom where a banquet was in full swing!  The noise and music must have scared the life out of him as he flew round and round the huge banqueting hall squawking and panicking about how to get out.  People were screaming and pointing as Percy dive bombed over the tables splattering the guests with more than they’d bargained for!  My mum was furious...

When he found out about the singer it started a fresh load of outbursts from him as he now felt that my mum and her admirer were trying to take his house and business off him! He constantly ranted on about it and often threatened to shoot the singer with his gun – I don’t think he would have done but then again, with his temper, who knows! This latest twist in the story did nothing for my dad’s sanity and my mum was still hoping to have him committed and kept making appointments for him with the psychiatrist. Once again, the Police were called every week informing them of the threats on the singer’s life and they eventually...

...Percy the parrot wasn’t around!  He did such a professional job that all Kev’s relatives thought we’d hired him for the day and couldn’t believe that he was our friend! As the party continued on into the night people gradually went home until there was just us and our friends left at 5am.  Bodies were everywhere – someone had fallen asleep on the Entrance Hall steps, another couple were flat out on a sofa in the Long Gallery.  Two more hadn’t quite made it up the main staircase and others were snuggled up on the Library sofas, books and drinks long abandoned.
