...ad to the vicarage for tea and biscuits.  There was always plenty of other food too so we were happy to go on special occasions.  However, the people that attended the church were all incredibly old (or so it seemed to us) and very posh and well spoken so for some reason this would set our minds to impish thoughts!  We decided to swap all the sandwiches round one time, putting different tops to different bottoms; we also licked all the ‘cream’ out of the custard creams and other similar type biscuits then put them back together on the plates.  We would watch with great delight from a short distance away while old men and ladies in fancy hats munched on t...

...nt to the vicarage across the road from my house and booked the date.  The vicar told us in no uncertain terms that he would expect us to be there when the banns were read.  However, as we never got up before lunch on a Sunday, try as we might, we never actually managed to hear our own banns being read! It was almost as bad at the wedding rehearsal.  I went to the church with my dad and the two bridesmaids but Kev never managed to get there as he was fitting a shower for someone!  I don’t think the vicar was very impressed with us! ...As summer turns to autumn my thoughts have gone back in time to 1970 when my family moved house at this time of the year - not to any old house, but to a 70-roomed stately home in Staffordshire!  The whole process of moving  was done over the summer months as we lived about 20 miles away in an old vicarage with a large garden and lots of outbuildings. This house was about 200 years old and they say Bonnie Prince Charlie marched past it on his way to battle back in the day, for all you history buffs out there!  Actually I love history and I think my interest was fuelled by living in these historic houses as a child.  My dad used to be a racing driver in the 1...
