When the Hall was built in 1871 it was actually modelled on a wing of the Temple Newsam house, which is why they look so similar. In 1793, after buying the Hoar Cross estate from the Talbots, Hugo built a house which he used as an occasional hunting lodge. He called it Old Hall and this was built around a small courtyard about half a mile away from where the Hall would later be built. ...s father, Lord Killearn also got involved by devising anagrams for one of the dance routines along with a local man, Paul Yukes. Kev and I were in control of the sound and we did tape recordings of the whole show which were sold afterwards to raise a bit more money (we still have one tape left!). Everyone gave of their time freely and it was great fun to be involved.

...My parents’ court case was finally over and my dad had six months to leave the family home, Hoar Cross Hall.
