...terest in motor racing but I think this was the first time we’d been to the London one, so it was quite exciting particularly as Radio Luxembourg were there sponsoring the show and I got to see all the lovely DJs.  Mum wanted to get a pair of evening shoes so we grabbed a taxi and he dropped us off outside a coat shop.  These coats looked like nothing we’d ever seen before (the London fashion scene was a bit ahead of Hoar Cross!) and we went in to try them on.  After quite a while we decided to buy one each – they were beautiful embroidered afghan coats – all the rage in 70s Britain.  They cost an absolute fortune and we had to tell my dad that mine...

My parents on their wedding day - 1952   After the Second World War he set up his own business making alabaster lamps, bowls and candles...

...sport of motor racing so why not a knock on the head? But things had taken a turn for the worse now and there was no going back. More solicitors’ letters flew back and forth as they tried to bring about an amicable agreement for both parties and set a date for the Birmingham High Court. A similar truncheon to the one used on my dad   Meanwhile, on a lighter note, we were still battling with the rats as they continued to invade the house. One day, I went into the kitchen and opened my mum’s desk drawer to find one all snuggled up inside! My, did I scream! Not sure who was more scared – me or the rat! Another day I saw one scurry off down the Chapel...
