...s – the Americans of course thoroughly enjoyed being in a stately home and asked my dad if he was the butler because he was wearing a dinner jacket with black tie! He didn’t take too kindly to that but they were more impressed when they found out that he was the owner! And they tipped well too. I was allowed to come to these events and loved telling a few stories about ‘the servants’ we had and the haunted attic! The Americans would hang on my every word!
During that summer my parents auditioned for a King, a jester, entertainers and singers and by August they had a team of ‘am-dram’ actors ready to start rehearsals. They also advertised...

...e and the Americans in Britain during the war. Her university dream was finally realised in 1981, when at the age of 74, she enrolled at the University of East Anglia for a B.A. degree course in English Literature, history, philosophy, and drama. She graduated in 1984.
In 1991, she paid a visit to Hoar Cross, spending a pleasurable week as a guest in the Spa Hotel, above stairs! What a strange experience that must have been for her, albeit enjoyable!
Her life had now come full circle which just goes to show that you should never give up on your dreams and you’re never too old to do something new!
