...e saw the Chester Zoo mini-series in 2014 about an ordinary family moving into a huge old house to start a Zoo then that is exactly what it was like for us.  When I saw that programme it brought back so many memories of those early months at the Hall when we were struggling to get the place back into shape and earn some money from it. And so the summer passed as we got used to our new living conditions.  We lived on the first floor where the caretakers had been as these were the only rooms near to a working bathroom and small kitchenette.  I sometimes wonder how my mum coped with a young family in such conditions – my younger brother was only 2 years old a...
