OUR MANSION GETS A FACELIFT! We moved into Hoar Cross Hall during the summer holidays and my parents quickly realised that they had a lot of work on their hands to make the place habitable as well as to earn some money from it. As previously mentioned, there was an East Wing and a West Wing to the house. My dad decided to convert the first floor Rooms of each wing into three separate apartments; he had done this at our previous house. This would generate income from rents until we got the main house open to the public. ...om to the Drawing Room after dinner and the Dining Room became the place where gentlemen talked and smoked away from the ladies.  Nowadays a Dining Room tends to be used for special occasions such as Christmas and most families eat in the kitchen if they have the Room to do so.  Although, of course, no-one could have predicted that so many Dining Rooms became home offices during the Covid-19 pandemic!   Now we are in the month of December, the next few blogs will have a Christmas theme - maybe even a ghostly one!  If you would like to follow my story from the beginning, please click here and feel free to share with your friends.Follow me on a personal tou...

The main purpose of a Drawing Room was to entertain guests and visitors but it also gave its name to Drawing Room plays.  This was an early form of drama that the upper classes liked to get involved in and as time went on it evolved to encompass comedy and forms of dramatic monologue.
