To keep the Meynell name going Emily’s brother changed his name from Wood to Meynell upon her death in 1904, thus keeping the name in the family. This was quite a common thing to do at this level of society if you wanted to keep a family name. In 1878 Frederick married Lady Mary Lindsay, the third daughter of the Earl of Crawford and Balcarres. Just as an aside, Mary’s sister, Annie, married Frank Bowes-Lyon (second son of the Earl of Strathmore) who went on to have a niece, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, who later married George VI and became our Queen then our Queen Mother.

The land was passed down to Henry’s son and subsequent various people over the course of 500 years ending with the Webb family, around the 1730s, who bought the land and house known as the Manor of the Cross. This was quite a large house built on a hill near Yoxall (which is the village next to Hoar Cross). In 1740 the manor house was demolished and later the Hon.
