...l Lombard RAC Rally which was quite exciting and very muddy!  We stood near a bend and watched cars skidding round corners and driving into ditches; occasionally knocking down trees which stood in their path!  Unfortunately, by the time I’d left school my parents’ marriage was rapidly falling apart and I was caught in the crossfire – any thoughts of Rallying were long gone! When Piers got a kart for his 10th birthday he also wanted to get into kart RACing, although this one only had a modified lawnmower engine in it so not very fast!  Mostly he just drove it up and down the long drive at the Hall but one day the steering arm broke and he crashed head o...

...e Lombard RAC Rally!  As my father had been a RACing driver and this was my  background growing up, I was quite keen to take up Rally driving when I got older, so we often went to watch the cars skid and screech around the muddy tRACks in the grounds.  Unfortunately, my dream never came true – well, it took me six years just to pass my driving test for one thing! Currently the remains of the property are Grade II listed buildings and there are plans in place to rebuild and restore so hopefully it will return to its former grandeur.  The gardens are still open to the public and the Trentham Estate offers lots of things for families to do along with music e...
