...steering arm broke and he crashed head on into the chapel wall breaking his pelvis!  Occasionally he got to drive it at Chasewater when Gavin was testing so then there were two of them going off to race at weekends. It was in 1979/80 that Piers started to test a proper racing kart and went on to race for four seasons with 1983 being the most successful – the highlight was winning the Cristal Challenge National.  He also drove Gavin’s Reynard FF2000 at Donington Park for a few laps to get the feel of a racing car and to see if his future lay there.  Nowadays he’s more interested in the two wheel variety, regularly travelling around Europe riding along...

...broke his arm a couple of weeks before the show started so ended up with the minor but important role of working the hands of the large clock that stood to one side of the stage!  I felt really sorry for him as he had to stand behind the clock and no-one could see him – however, the clock was a major part of the story which involved the lead actors going back in time at midnight, so he was whizzing the hands round all night long!  Alexandra Meynell’s father, Lord Killearn also got involved by devising anagrams for one of the dance routines along with a local man, Paul Yukes.  Kev and I were in control of the sound and we did tape recordings of the whole s...

...el on his arm.  She was wearing a short cheesecloth dress and with the sun behind her it was completely see through!  Anyone who remembers the Lady Di photo will know what I mean!  We heard a sharp intake of breath as the whole congregation turned to face the door – talk about upstaging the bride! Finally, the ceremony was over and I was married to Kev (not Derrick) and as we walked out into the sunlight I felt a huge relief that it was all over.  However, the day was slightly marred by the fact that my mum wasn’t there and because she had been asked not to come, she had retaliated by not letting my little brother Piers come either.  When the photos we...
