The Boudoir (which means 'ladies dressing room or private sitting room') has a carved wooden fireplace dating from the 18th century and complements the elegantly gilded and moulded ceiling. The walls were covered with William Morris damask, which was a beautiful gold coloured silk fabric; unfortunately it is no longer there. In this room we had on display a four-poster bed and during the first year at the Hall we used this room to display my father's racing car and memorabilia! What would Lady Dorothy have said to that!

...or in the Library. There were two secret doors, one which was always open and used by the visitors to wend their way around the house and the other was on the opposite side of the room and always closed. The doors, when closed, looked like part of the bookshelves and had a little brass catch on the ledge which you pressed to open them. One day I stood in the Library near the door and smiled at some visitors so they saw me standing there. When they turned to look out of the window I quickly released the catch and Janine and I swapped places – as they turned back and saw a different girl standing there their smiles looked a bit forced and they quickly fled...

...CHRISTMAS HIGH JINKS: The sounds of La Golondrina floated through the air as Viv sat at the grand piano. How pleased she was that someone had asked them to look after this fine musical instrument for a few months. Having learned to play when she was younger, this gave Viv the opportunity to brush up on her skills as a pianist and she was thoroughly enjoying it. The piano was in the Library and suited the room perfectly. She could hear her father and an antique dealer talking in the Long Gallery as they haggled over the price of a painting that he was selling. Viv gazed out of the window as she played and thought back to the Midsummer’s Eve Bal...Skools out for summer! #12
