...s married Lady Dorothy Legge in 1907, the elder daughter of the 6th Earl of Dartmouth. On the death of his father they moved into Hoar Cross Hall and raised their family of five children. Sadly, one of their children died aged 8 years. In 1919 Lady Dorothy founded the Hoar Cross Women’s Institute. As well as this she was a County Magistrate and devoted a lot of her time to the Red Cross Society. She was also a very knowledgeable horticulturist and so was very keen to tame some of the more ‘wild’ areas in the Hall gardens. She was especially interested in a sunken area near the church which she made into a sunken garden, surrounding it with rhododendron bus...
